Make your State ID Card REAL ID-compliant!

State ID Cards are available in both Standard (Non-Travel) and Travel ID form. A Standard (Non-Travel) State ID Card is labeled “Not for Federal Identification”, meaning that after May 7, 2025 this form of ID alone is not sufficient to board a domestic flight or enter a federal building. A Travel ID Card is marked by the star located on the upper right hand corner.

Consider upgrading to the Travel ID Card to avoid the hassle of carrying around additional identification or paying for another ID if you decide to upgrade later.

State ID Requirements
Obtaining a State ID Card requires proof of identification, age, and authorized presence. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A completed Arizona Driver License Application
  • Proof of legal presence, which could be the following:
    • Original birth certificate or unexpired U.S. passport
    • Authorized presence documents
  • Travel ID Only: 2 proofs of Arizona residency from an official source. For example: financial institution, school transcript, insurance policy, government agency, etc.

This list shows the general requirements, but depending on your circumstances, additional documents may be necessary. For example, official name change documents could be required to validate a legal name change. Contact us for assistance!

Statewide, temporary credentials are issued for immediate use until the official ones arrive in the mail.

In 2020, ADOT enhanced security by centralizing the distribution of Arizona MVD credentials, such as driver licenses, instruction permits, license plates, car titles, and placards, to name a few!

Once your order is placed and paid for at any MVD or Authorized Third Party office, you’ll receive temporary documents to use until your official credentials arrive in the mail from ADOT.

The post office will not forward mail from ADOT, so make sure your home address is current with USPS®
